VIDEO: Develop Self & Others 250 Word Statement Examples

250 word statements for the Develop Self & Others behaviour

When applying for a job in the Civil Service, one key area you might need to show off is your ability to “Develop Self and Others.” This means you’re not just looking out for your own growth and learning, but you’re also keen on helping those around you get better at what they do. It’s about sharing knowledge, encouraging learning, and creating an environment where everyone can improve and succeed.

For job applications, you’re often asked to write a statement, usually 250 words, to demonstrate how you’ve shown this skill in the past. This short piece of writing is your chance to shine and give specific examples of how you’ve developed your skills and helped others do the same. Think of it as a mini-story where you’re the star, showing how your actions have made a positive impact.

Now, the video above introduces a super helpful way to write your statement, called the B-STAR method. This stands for Belief, Situation, Task, Action, Result. It’s a structured way to tell your story:

  • Belief: Start by sharing your core belief about the importance of personal and professional development. This sets the stage for your story.
  • Situation: Describe a specific situation where there was an opportunity for development, either for you or others.
  • Task: Explain what needed to be done in this situation. This could be a goal you set for your own development or how you aimed to help others improve.
  • Action: Detail the steps you took to tackle the task. This is where you show your initiative, creativity, or leadership skills.
  • Result: Finish by sharing the outcomes of your actions. Highlight the positive changes in skills, knowledge, or attitudes for yourself and others.

By following the B-STAR method, you can create a compelling and organized statement that clearly shows how you excel at developing yourself and others. It’s a great way to stand out in your Civil Service job application by presenting your experiences in a clear, concise, and impactful way.
